Japanese heartnut, comes from the mountainous areas of the islands of Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoko, Kyushu and Sakhalin. Highly rated variety for its nut quality and productivity.
Vigour: fast growing, up to 15 - 20 m high. At first it grows straight up, but later it builds up a wide canopy. Bark is light gray and grooved.
Blossom: May, after the first leaf development, partially self-fertile. This means that two or more seedlings or different varieties should be planted. It is a protogynous cultivar, release pollen after female bloom.
Nut: medium-sized, 4 - 5 cm long. The fruits hang in large bunches. Shell hard but easy to break.
Kernel: color light brown, can be easily removed from the shell
Taste: very good, slightly cracking
Harvest season: the nuts ripen in late September
Yields: bears fruit 2 to 3 years after planting, regular yields
Resistance to diseases: Tree overall vital and climatically robust
Frost resistance: completely frost hardy
