Zaosu Red Striped is a new hybrid pear variety that arose spontaneously through a random somatic mutation of the Zaosu Red pear. It has all the characteristics of the Zaosu Red pear but differs in the appearance of the fruits, which have yellow stripes along the fruit on a red background. The characteristic feature is the distinctly red young leaves. After years of observation, no reverse mutation has appeared, the characteristics and properties of the Zaosu Red Striped pear remain stable. The fruits are suitable for long-term storage without loss of taste and marketable quality of the fruit.
Origin: China, somatic mutation of the Zaosuhong variety, translated as Zaosu red
Vigour: grows upright, shoots form an acute angle with the main axis. It has a strong growth potential but a weaker ability to branch.
Blossom: the flowers are pink in color, arranged in inflorescences of 6-8 pieces. The flowers and young fruits are to some extent resistant to spring frosts. The variety is self-pollinating, but the presence of a pollinator in the orchard improves the quantity and quality of the harvest.
Fruits: oval or oblong, with an average weight of 250 grams, the largest can reach up to 500 grams. The color of the young fruit is initially completely red, later yellow stripes begin to appear. The surface of the fruit is smooth, shiny, the skin is thin, and the fruit core is small.
Pulp: white, soft, crispy and juicy
Taste: sweet to slightly sour
Harvest season: ripens in early August and, if necessary, can hang on the tree until the end of September. It does not fall, does not wither and does not lose quality. At room temperature, the storability of the fruit is significantly better than that of other varieties.
Yields: due to the usual high fruit set, it is necessary to thin out in time, usually within three weeks after flowering. One fruit is left in one inflorescence. The space between the fruits should be 25 - 30 cm. It starts fruiting early, the first fruit begins to bear three years after planting.
Disease resistance: low sensitivity to fire blight (Erwinia amylovora), highly resistant to scab (Venturia pyrina) and pear rust (Gymnosporangium sabinae)
Frost resistance: very good
