Variety bred in the French region of Ardèche, a selection of hybrid plants derived from the free pollination of the Japanese chestnut Castanea crenata and the European chestnut Castanea sativa. Registered in 1986. This variety can be grown up to 400 m above sea level.

Origin: Castanea crenata x Castanea sativa
Vigour: moderate, semi-upright, forming few side branches. The tree has a strong root system and is also suitable as a rootstock.
Blossom: cross-pollinate, therefore requires the presence of a pollinator in its vicinity, for example different varieties of Castanea sativa or hybrids of C.sativa x C.crenata
Fruit: large to very large, shiny, mahogany red. The tree has an early yield onset after planting.
Harvest season: mid-early, early October. Chestnuts can be stored without refrigeration for about 4 weeks. For long-term storage, they should be placed in a refrigerator at a temperature range of -1°C to 4°C. Wrapping them in a plastic bag will prevent drying out and loss of quality.
Disease and frost resistance: resistant to parasitic fungus Phytophthora ramorum, frost hardy
Usage: for commercial cultivation and in home gardens

We draw your attention to the quarantine pest of the sweet chestnut, Dryocosmus kuriphilus, which appeared for the first time in Central Europe.
