Sweet Chestnut (Castanea crenata x Castanea sativa) MARIGOULE

Medium-early, large-fruited French sweet chestnut with early yield onset. This variety was created by selecting hybrid seedlings in the French region of Corréze, derived from the free pollination of the Japanese chestnut Castanea crenata and the European chestnut Castanea sativa. The variety was registered in 1986 and was originally called "Marron de Migoule". Can be grown up to 400 m above sea level.

Crossing: Castanea crenata x Castanea sativa
Vigour: strong, semi-upright
Blossom: self-fertile variety, a good pollinator of most pollen-sterile chestnut trees
Fruits: large, very tasty, firm, shiny, mahogany red. The tree has an early yield onset after planting.
Harvest season: mid-early, early Octoberber. Chestnuts can be stored without refrigeration for about 4 weeks. For long-term storage, they should be placed in a refrigerator at a temperature range of -1°C to 4°C. Wrapping them in a plastic bag will prevent drying out and loss of quality.
Disease and frost resistance: resistant to parasitic fungus Phytophthora ramorum, frost hardy
Usage: for commercial cultivation and in home gardens

We draw your attention to the quarantine pest of the sweet chestnut, Dryocosmus kuriphilus, which appeared for the first time in Central Europe.
